It's the most won-der-ful tiiiiime of the year...

What teacher doesn't love life during summer? The self-made routine and the family-centered lifestyle are as refreshing as a rejuvenating splash of cool water on a sticky hot day. Hot like mid-June in a classroom filled with 20 some pre-teens and a questionable ventilation system. Summer? Summer is good.

But as for me, I live for this time of year.

  • I love "Back to School". There, I said it. I love school, period. Hence the teaching thing. This year it was harder than ever to leave my own personal munchkins to go teach Music to other peoples' munchkins all day, but once I was back, I was BACK. Purposeful and excited, creative outlets and all.
  • Gorgeous, crisp, and sunny afternoons and beautiful foilage displays. Let's pretend it doesn't rain as a habit in autumn. Then we'll make believe that those mucky piles of decomposing leaves are just going to rake themselves.
  • Cooler, more arid days do nothing but good for the frizz factory that is my red mop of hair.
  • I love the long procession of holiday season after holiday season that begin with the fall: Back to School, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmakwanzakah. These are even more fun when your life revolves around children, day and night, like we lucky teachers with little ones of our own. There's always songs to sing, events to plan & attend (the frequency of said events I begin to curse around early December, but right now, YAY!), and decorations to enjoy. Summer and Fall have such excitement, built right in. January through June = boring. Last January through June being a giant exception. But we had a Little Project going on.
  • Little family traditions like leaf-raking Saturday, the trip to Johnson's Corner Farm to have a ball paying triple for apples, LVC Homecoming, Halloween costume selection, Trick-or-Treating, and let's not forget Miss M.'s birthday in November! Hey Bob - let's go to a football game this year! No? Silly, I mean, a HALFTIME show. Obviously.
  • And let's not forget the most wonderful reason for getting one's butt out of the house on cool fall mornings:
This Thanksgiving, if I forget to say I'm thankful for Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Coffee, just give me a heads up.

Who's with me? Fall is the best.

Fall definitely has it above all the rest of the seasons, hands-down (whatever that means). I love opening my windows at night feeling the chill, but the lovely warm (NOT HOT) sun comes out in the afternoons. My mood definitely is better in the fall--winter is OK, too, if it has lots of snow, like last year. Love the old feeling of a SNOW DAY, too, even if it's in the late fall. And, lucky me, only 1 tree in the yard and the leaves always seem to blow over to the neighbors yards, if I leave them long enough. I'm with you, Meg, fall is fall-tastic!

I can't wait until the little one and big one are big enough to come up for a weekend so they can experience fall in New England. I am adoring it!

I have always wanted to see it in the fall.

Is November too late? We have a long weekend in early Nov. every year. I'm thinking next year we're heading up?
